Suit Against New Jersey Title Companies Williams Cuker Berezofsky has filed a massive class action consumer fraud lawsuit against several major title insurance companies who overcharged New Jersey property owners for government recording fees when purchasing or refinancing residential real estate in New Jersey since January 22, 2003. The title companies and their agents charged consumers significantly more for the cost of recording deeds and mortgages than they actually paid the government for the recording. In many cases these overcharges amounted to hundreds of dollars or more and the lawsuit seeks to reimburse consumers for the amounts they were overcharged and to stop the defendant title companies from continuing this practice.
